🎤 Management Training 2026

Why Management Matters

Part 1 – What is Management?

English

  • Management is not paperwork.

  • Not sitting in an office.

  • Not just telling people what to do.

  • It means right things, right time, right way.

  • So children receive safe surgery.

If Management Improves

English

  • More children get surgery.

  • Staff treated and paid better.

  • Hospital becomes stronger.

Swahili

  • Watoto zaidi wanapata upasuaji.

  • Wafanyakazi wanathaminiwa na kulipwa vizuri.

  • Hospitali inakuwa imara.

If Management is Weak

English

  • Children wait.

  • Mistakes increase.

  • Staff get frustrated.

  • Donors lose confidence.

Swahili

  • Watoto wanasubiri.

  • Makosa yanaongezeka.

  • Wafanyakazi wanachoka.

  • Wafadhili wanapoteza imani.

Part 2 – Our Three Goals

English

  • Every decision must support one goal.

  • If not — question it.

Swahili

  • Upasuaji zaidi na bora.

  • Mishahara na mazingira bora.

  • Mifumo endelevu.

  • Kila uamuzi uunge mkono lengo moja.

  • Kama hauungi — jiulize kwa nini.

Part 3 – 80/20 Rule

English

  • Busy is not effective.

  • 80% results from 20% work.

  • Find your vital 20%.

  • Protect high-impact tasks.

  • Choose what matters most.

Swahili

  • Kuwa busy si kuwa na matokeo.

  • 80% ya matokeo hutoka 20% ya kazi.

  • Tafuta 20% muhimu.

  • Linda kazi zenye athari kubwa.

  • Chagua kilicho muhimu zaidi.

Part 4 – Morning Discipline

English

  • Exercise briefly.

  • Clear your mind.

  • Write 3 priorities.

  • Review yesterday.

Swahili

  • Dakika 10 kila asubuhi.

  • Fanya mazoezi kidogo.

  • Safisha mawazo.

  • Andika vipaumbele 3.

  • Pitia jana.

Management Training 2026

Management is an important organisation function that involves overseeing people and processes and guiding towards a common goal or outcome.

For morechildsurgeries.com and CST and Selian Childrens Hospital the common goals we worked through in 2020 from all of you and have stuck to since are:

  1. More Better Child Surgeries
  2. Better pay and conditions for medical workers who work with the children
  3. More sustainable hospital and associated medical networks that work with/report to funders/donors

Hi and welcome to Management Training 2026,

You asked for it—and now you’ve got it. I’m genuinely looking forward to this, and I hope you are too.

We’ll be running Zoom sessions once or twice a month. Macha will send out the invitations ahead of each session.

What’s the purpose?

  • More and better child surgeries.

  • You earning more money.

If you turn up and engage, you will learn—and when you pass the short test each session, you’ll earn bonuses on your next pay. There will also be extra bonuses for effective management solutions you implement along the way.

Most importantly, your improved skills will help CST, Selian, and the entire More Child Surgeries program become more sustainable and effective.

You’re also welcome to invite anyone with a genuine interest in helping children.

And if you’re smart, consider allocating a portion of your bonuses to the wealth creation strategies we’ve been talking about.

Let’s make this count.

About the Zooms

Each session will run for 30 minutes total, and we’ll be starting on time. I recommend joining five minutes early—if you miss the first part, it’ll be hard to pass the tests.

Here’s the structure:

  • 20 minutes of training

  • 5 minutes of testing

  • 5 minutes of review (sometimes of this session, sometimes the previous one)

The Textbooks?
They’re essentially what you see here. I’ve read all seven over the Christmas break in preparation for this management training you asked me to do.

Our Core Focus: Child Safety
Rather than following a general management path, we’re anchoring everything around child safety. That’s our lens.

The first three books—Patient Safety, To Err is Human, and Crossing the Quality Chasm—are scientific publications from the American Institute of Medicine. These are Harvard-level textbooks used in their patient safety master’s course. Legitimate and deeply researched.

The next four:

  • Make It Stick

  • Essentialism

  • Never Split the Difference
These are all multimillion-copy bestsellers—proven and practical.

And then there’s Talk by Professor Alison Brooks (Harvard), who has taught her acclaimed communication course for over a decade.

These seven books will shape this year’s practical, purpose-driven management training.

Why it matters:

  • Children will be safer and better cared for.

  • You will likely earn more and feel more fulfilled.

  • Your organisation will grow stronger through your enhanced skills.

Let’s build something worthwhile.

đź’ Simple Wisdom for Daily Work
